The Tagalog language is a Central Philippine language within the Austronesian language family. Its closest relatives are the other Central Philippine languages such as the Bikol languages, Bisayan languages, and the Visayan languages. Tagalog is therefore not related to the majority of languages spoken in the Philippines such as Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Waray-Waray, and the majority of the other Visayan languages.
