Howler for an Hour Stream: Rex: Another Island

This game is published by Pixeljam (who I love, they made Dino Run!), but developed by shysaursoft. I don't know of shysaursoft, but now I love them too!
This is a full playthrough. It's true, this isn't really that long a game (depending on how good you are at platformers, it may take you a little longer). But wow - I enjoyed every second of it!
Everything is designed perfectly. Mechanics are simple: jump, double-jump. Collectible coins which you lose if you don't 'bank' them at the (numerous) checkpoints before dying. Warp points to trigger, special gems to find. Three endings.
The genius in the execution of an admittedly simple concept. Rex controls tightly and responsively - which is good, given the number of hazards and enemies you come across. Death triggers a quick respawn at an always-nearby checkpoint though, so it's not frustrating to work your way through a hard challenge. The music is absolutely FANTASTIC too, a mix of orchestrated instruments and chiptune instruments putting together a lovely soundtrack. The visuals, while simple, also pop very nicely and explain the environment well.
I can't recommend this game enough. It was a lovely experience, and I eagerly hope for more Rex games in the future! I'd be happy to run, jump, and collect through a far longer game in the future.
Bravo! The one good game of tonight's stream, and quite a standout at that!
