Showcasing my HYW Veteran Foot soldiers. Before men were hired for a set period and they were novice veteran, whatever. They were paid for a set period of time and then left. Then came the man at arms who remained in service to one lord who provided the training, lodgings food and pay. This in turn provided a sense of loyalty to that lord. For the Lords It would be all about status. Showing how rich you were and you could display this by the men in your employ.
