So I went through and translated an old Nintendo webpage where Shigeru Miyamoto talks about Mario in detail and even discusses the upcoming Nintendo Dolphin (before it was revealed as the GameCube). It's a fascinating piece of history and really reveals a lot about the character and how things changed around that time.
