The Ibanez J Custom is a beast of a shred machine and is the Ibanez dream realized. From the thinnest neck to the classic DiMarzio pickups, this is the Ibanez brand identity. Over the years, they’ve perfected their approach. However, while their Prestige lines of guitars have started to incorporate modern features such as stainless steel frets, the J Custom still is make with nickel silver fretwire.
Enter the Solar AC. Its combination of all the modern toppings such as stainless steel frets, a richlite fretboard, and the rock steady Evertune bridge strive to give guitarists the most reliable playing experience. This instrument is a supremely useful tool, but it is not without flaws of its own. The fretboard, while stable, strangely is not rounded in any way. As I reach for this guitar and use it, the fretboard edge is starting to get played in a little, but it’s still an odd omission and keeps this guitar away from being considered a polished instrument.
Neither of these drawbacks are significant enough to prevent the usage of these guitars and as such, I have used these to great effect on many songs now. While it isn’t possible for me to pick just one, I do find myself picking up the Solar more often.
