On a surface level, a tattoo may seem like nothing more than a drawing we wear forever. But many times a tattoo can be so much more than that. Tattoos can be a very powerful tool to help people work through past trauma, a visual reminder that they had the strength to carry on. Inktentions is a project created by two tattoo artists, Emmanuel Fortunato and Koral Ladna, to heat trauma through the empowering tattoos. For the first episode the pair of artists welcomed Keira and Erica, two domestic abuse survivors, into the studio. The two women shared their stories of perseverance, inspiring us all. Strong bonds were created between the artists and the women throughout the session, giving the finished product even greater meaning.
