1Yunica, as part of the party sent from Solomon Shrine to the demon-infested surface, decides to do some recon in the Wailing Blue.
Ys Origin is a 2006 action RPG / hack and slash video game from Falcom. It is a prequel to Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished, the 1987 classic that has since been remade many times. Ys Origin features three different storylines/campaigns; I go with the first and probably easiest, starring Yunica Tovah.
This is my first exposure to the series. The gameplay is very enjoyable, and the characters are likable too, except the boring villains. Overall story, as I figured out at the end, is extremely bland. Maybe something amazing will happen if you go through it with a different character’s route, but I doubt it.
That OP, though! Apparently this is an anime. And it took over thirty minutes for the main game to actually begin. Perhaps this is standard practice for hack-and-slash games? I have little experience with them, but I rather doubt it. But of course, it took me longer to get through the opening because I was reading it aloud.
