In the world of smartphones, the screen happens to be one of the most expensive parts of any smartphone, if not the most expensive. Unfortunately, the most expensive part is also the most vulnerable on any smartphone. Due to this, almost every manufacturer tries to please its customers by featuring extra layer of protections on the displays of its phones.

These extra protections have always ended up disappointing users as they don’t seem to do the job as advertised by the manufacturers. This is the reason why almost 98% of smartphone users opt for screen protectors rather than depending on the manufacturer’s protection.

The most popular form of glass protection is undoubtedly Gorilla Glass from Corning. This year, Corning released a more advanced glass called the Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The new glass was featured in Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series. It is truly stronger than its predecessor. But not strong enough to make users do away with screen protectors. In a drop test video that we sited on YouTube, PBKreviews performed a concrete floor drop test on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. He also performed a similar test on the Huawei Mate 50 Pro. Reviewers usually perform these kinds of tests just to check how much the phones can be resistant to accidental drops.

In the concrete drop test video, the YouTuber first performed the test on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Some few days later, he performed the same drop test on the Huawei Mate 50 Pro.

He first drops the device onto a concrete floor from a waist high distant before dropping it again from a head high. He usually does the same for both front and back of the phone. The Galaxy S23 Ultra features the latest and strongest Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. However, this new technology from Corning seems to be equally weak just like its predecessor.

The screen of the S23 Ultra could not withstand the impact of the waist high drop test. There were several cracks on the screen just after performing the first test. So, the reviewer did not have to risk performing a head high test. The second test was performed on the back of the S23 Ultra, also from a waist high. As you would expect, the back glass even performed worser than the front glass. It was a very disappointing scene to witness, and we just cannot blame Samsung for that as the Gorilla Glass is made by another company. Nonetheless, I wish the manufactures would perform such test before giving us their assurances.

For some years now, Huawei has been one of the few Android phone manufacturers that choses to do things differently. The company always seems to be in a zone of its own as long as technology and innovation is concerned.

When the Chinese tech giant launched the Mate 50 Pro, it called the phone “the unbreakable”. It claimed that the screen of the device is 10 times harder than that of any other phone in the world. In other words, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro is supposed to be the world’s toughest.

Well, we are all used to hearing this from manufacturers and later getting disappointed, so users don’t really care about these brags anymore. The drop test has proven that Huawei was not bragging at all when it called the Mate 50 Pro “the unbreakable”.

The device totally survived the first drop test which was dropped from a waist high. The second test was a head high test in which he dropped the phone from the height of his head. The Mate 50 Pro landed on its screen and yet, nothing happened. Not even a single scratch on the screen could be seen. The sides of the phone however developed some drop dents which still didn’t look too bad.The back drop test was also performed from the waist high distant. The back glass remained completely intact with the usual dents on the sides and bottom of the phone. However, the impact of the dent finally affected the screen. You could see a thin hairline crack from the bottom part of the screen. The reviewer said the crack was so faint that you could not even feel it with your finger.
