The Denza Z9 GT presents itself as the flagship of the BYD family, with an imposing length of 5.20 meters and a wheelbase of 3.13 meters. Despite these generous dimensions, it surprises with its very small turning circle of just 4.62 meters, thanks to a sophisticated rear-wheel steering technology. From an aesthetic point of view, the car is positioned halfway between a station wagon and a shooting brake, with crossover traits, large wheels and a style that strongly recalls the BYD stylistic language, in particular in the front light clusters with an X-shaped light signature. The Denza Z9 is available in both an electric and plug-in hybrid version, although the latter is extremely powerful and more similar to a high-performance hybrid. The numbers are supercar-like: the electric version promises up to 950 horsepower, while the plug-in should offer over 800 combined horsepower, thanks to a 207 horsepower petrol engine and two rear electric motors. The plug-in battery is 38 kWh, but official autonomy data is not yet available. It is clearly a car designed for the premium market, with an extremely high level of technology and comfort.

The interior of the Z9 GT is a triumph of luxury and technology, with particular attention to the comfort of rear passengers, as required by the Chinese market. The rear seats are electrically adjustable, extremely soft and equipped with ventilation, heating and padded headrests. There is plenty of space in every direction and comfort is comparable to that of an S-Class, with small details that make the experience truly premium, such as the rear screen for climate control. Even in the front area we find high-quality materials, refined shapes and equally comfortable seats, with the addition of speakers integrated into the headrests. The infotainment system is dominated by a large central screen flanked by a display for the driver. A special feature is the presence of an internal camera with integration for social media, capable of applying Instagram-type filters. The only aesthetic element that could be excessive is the “crystal goblet” style gear lever, which will probably be replaced in the European version.

The technological heart of the Denza Z9 GT is the advanced rear-wheel steering system, capable of not only significantly reducing the turning radius, but also improving safety and agility. In the event of a tire blowout, the system immediately recognizes the problem, interrupts the delivery of torque to the affected wheel and automatically sets a forced convergence of the rear wheels, maintaining the car’s trajectory stable and directing it towards the edge of the road. Parking is simplified by a unique system that allows the rear wheels to steer in phase and counterphase, even independently of each other. This allows maneuvers in very tight spaces, almost as if the car were turning on itself. The car can even move “sideways” like a crab, thanks to the in-phase steering on both axles, a useful solution in particular conditions, such as exiting narrow parking lots or navigating extreme hairpin bends.

An interesting anecdote: the Z9 GT is the only car capable of tackling a Chinese road with 50 very tight hairpin bends, thanks to the combination of independent rear steering and torque vectoring. It is therefore a car that pushes the very concept of mobility forward, combining supercar solutions with flagship comfort needs. The independent rear steering system, which can also operate at high speeds in phase (to improve stability on the highway), is one of a kind, with potentially revolutionary applications even in emergency conditions or loss of grip. Despite some small defects such as slightly increased tire wear when maneuvering, due to slippage during tight rotations, the Denza Z9 GT promises an out-of-the-ordinary driving experience. The estimated price is around €100,000, justified by performance, technology and content. The European debut is expected between the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026.
