0It's not "Resident Evil" or "Silent Hill" debate has been raging in my head. So hear is my ranting. I mostly focus on my take of Silent Hill The Short Message. Enjoy!
BTW this is what I have in my Resident Kafka notes for Kafka and Resi key takes. Their main cliches and what not.
To me these are the four Principal points to make something Kafkaesque with an additional point of what I used to think was solely Kafkaesque.
1. A nightmarish setting
2. Vivid expression of Anxiety and Alienation
3. A nonsensical, blind authority
4. An individual's powerlessness to understand or control what is happening
5. Fighting against an unknown and far away malevolent factor that is creating serious difficulties in their lives
Here are a list of some key elements that make Resident Evil what it is from both a Story and Mechanics standpoint.
1. A nightmarish setting
2. Bioterrorism (Bioweapons/virus)
3. Supply conservation (Ammo, healing herbs, Ink ribbons, and so forth)
4. Two or more characters escape after defeating a big bad Bioweapon.
5. Said escape is in a Helicopter during the sunrise typically.
6. Bioweapon ends with a weapon dropped from the sky like a Rocket Launcher or Magnum.
7. Cheesy Dialogue and one liners
