I've Been to London
Couple months ago I decided to dive back in to the Mass Effect universe. It was a free game on PS plus and well, it was time. I powered through the first game going about 85% renegade per usual, then suffered through the second on insanity with an Adept until about 8 hours in when I unlocked bonus powers. I really went from thinking that was the worst game ever to hey this is as good as I remember when one playthrough. And then I started the third, and by far most controversial game.
I'd beaten the first two close to 20 times. For achievements over multiple accounts, switching between the companions or fem/male Shep. But somehow I only beat the 3rd game once. And that was because of the multiplayer, which was unfortunately cut for the remaster. Running around as a vanguard this time felt incredibly fresh and fun. I wish I wrote this after finishing the game instead of 3:27 AM on a Friday, because I don't think I'm going to quite put into words how important the Citadel DLC felt while playing. It was like the perfect combination of nostalgia, Marvel humor, and a conclusion. And these are 3 things that I hate.
America is consumed by nostalgia, but playing a 10 year old DLC for the first time was downright emotional. I really only like a couple Marvel movies because of the forced comedy in ALL of them, but I loved it here. And the game ends with a cookie cutter A/B/C choice that the developers said they wouldn't do, and I just fuckin like it.
At the time I wanted to make a reddit post that was going to be a love letter to Mass Effect but never got around to it. So instead I'll do it here to maybe a few people who will watch it including myself years from now. Thanksgiving is a week from now, so cheers to you Mike.
Anyways, here is the only gameplay I recorded that was more than 3 minutes. Spent the entire game using a shotgun and decided to go out with the Cerberus Harrier. If a vanguard Shepard didn't ever get stunned I'm pretty sure him and a few squad mates could take on any force in fiction. I thought about this while watching Two Towers. Pretty sure they could 3v10,000 the orcs.
Title is a reference to a Splender song I discovered around the same time I put another 100 hours into these games. And from an album I've known about my whole life, but had never heard. Kind of felt a connection there.
