In 1989, Joseph travels to Japan for the help of his grandson Jotaro Kujo, since they have both developed a mysterious power known as Stand the moment Dio comes back to life, now using the body of his ancestor Jonathan Joestar at his will. As a result, Jotaro's mother falls ill by developing a Stand that she cannot bear given her body conditions. Jotaro and Joseph, accompanied by Mohammed Avdol, Noriaki Kakyoin, Jean Pierre Polnareff and the dog Iggy, travel through Asia to find Dio and kill him to heal Jotaro's mother, fighting against other Stand users sent by Dio on the way.
