Jumping Into Splitgate 2 (It's Not Improved But Still Very Fun)
0It's me playing Splitgate 2 for the first time. I played a good chunk of every mode available modes only available through custom lobbies notwithstanding. The first game was Halo with portals and this game is also Halo with Portals but with some extra stuff on top. Honestly though that extra stuff didn't really make much of a difference to me. Mostly I just did the same thing I'd do in the original Splitgate which, to be clear, ruled. When this game is like that game it rules too.
Where the game tries to be different it often ruins what it attempts to rework. This isn't true across the board - the 24 mode for instance seems fine - but why remove Showdown? Why redesign Splitball and make it not just Oddball anymore? Why are there not replays anymore? Why can't you queue for specific modes anymore? Where are the old maps? Lotta little questions like have stacked up over my first session with this game and I'm a little bummed out over the apparent answers.
Again though, Splitgate 2 is still fun. Takedown mode still rules. Any Fiesta Mode is a good time. I love how you can protect two capture points at once in domination, that feels incredible. It's still a very good shooter and I'm very curious to see if I can play it local remote style on my Retroid Pocket Flip 2. It's also free and the monetization is full of things that suck so... it's basically just free. I wonder if that'll be a problem for them again.
