2d sprites and music not bad but gameplay is crap.
Same battle system as final fantasy 2 and saga, you need to stay afk for hours like an idiot to upgrade your defence and you need to do this for 3 parties.
There is 2 default party for night and day, 3th salvan party is available only in last 31 day of the month.
You need to find and read all useless crap in dungeons to trigger scripts and actually progress in-game.
Nes version was ported by infamous developers of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and they fucked up made it more annoying, all 108 stones not registered and need to do it twice and if you enter dungeon you need to do everything from start.
Later you need to wait long 31 days to summon party and make it quick to grab all items to progress in-game but this trash in all versions.
Wait pc engine english translation, in pc engine they fixed bullshit with 108 stones and for story you need only 4.
