Le Mans 24 - SEGA (Supermodel 0.3a WIP - SVN 271 ) Fragment Shader (60fps)
41Here's Le Mans 24 running on the latest WIP version of Supermodel 0.3 - SVN 271. Le Mans suffers with issues with it's graphics in Supermodel. A part of the stage with rain isn't emulated properly and this causes a screen obscuring fog rather than the correct rain effect. I've used a custom shader, that I was able to create with some guidance from Bart over at the Supermodel forum, to get rid of this fog entirely, which I think makes the game look significantly better.
Le Mans 24 is a bit of a funny one when it comes to the Sega Model 3 games. It seems to have a bit of a reputation as being the fugly, weird handling younger brother of Daytona 2, Scud Race and Sega Rally 2. In some respects I can see where people get this idea, it does look more like a Sega Model 2 game than a Model 3 one when you first start playing it. However, having said that, the dynamic changes in the lighting as you play the game (as you go from daytime to dusk to night to dawn and back to daytime) must've been pretty revolutionary back in the day, even though it's the sort of thing we all take for granted now. I'm sure that because of these specific effects in the changing of the environment as you play through the 24 hours of the game, some sacrifices had to be made elsewhere graphically, which I suspect is why it looks more like a Sega Model 2 game than a Model 3 one. Once you start getting into the dusk and night sections of the game though, I really do think it starts to come into its own graphically with some very nice looking sections as you drive through the area with the bridge and the funfair and some nice effects of your headlights on the road (which again was probably extremely advanced for a 90's racer). Please also note, I'm really not very good at this game and this upload wasn't intended as some demonstration of my awesome Le Mans skills. It's purely to demonstrate the custom shader in action.
