"One more thing. I know that many species have trouble pronouncing Chiss names correctly. So I suggest you call me by my core name: Thrawn."
"It's okay, Mitth'raw'nuruodo," Anakin replied. Was it just him, or was the Chiss trying to sound provocative and condescending? "I can handle it."
"Mitth'raw'nuruodo," the alien corrected.
"That's what I said," Anakin replied. "Mitth'raw'nuruodo."
"It is pronounced Mitth'raw'nuruodo."
"Yes. Mitth'raw'nuruodo."
"Mitth'raw'nuruodo."
Anakin clenched his teeth. "All right," he grumbled. "Thrawn."

(Excerpt from "Thrawn: Alliances" by Timothy Zahn)

Ruling an empire is usually not that easy. All the more so when more and more rebels suddenly spring up and think that they no longer like the local form of government. It doesn't work at all! That's why our favorite, half-before-his-time-mummified Emperor Palpie the First is also grateful for any (useful) help he can get. Most of the other officers barely know what they're doing, throwing wave after wave of Stormtroopers into the crossfire. Vader isn't there again because he "supposedly" wants to have tracked down a Jedi somewhere. And even an absolute ruler can only be in one place at a time. Still...

...well, apparently a blue-skinned Chiss is requesting a private audience, and in the Imperial Palace too. Supposedly picked up by some Star Destroyer captain on one of many unimportant planets. Wait, did they say “Chiss”? Mh... if I remember correctly, Anakin once told me about someone who was extremely capable in tactics and warfare. And since Chiss are relatively fond of hiding from the rest of the galaxy, there's a good chance it's the same Chiss. Well, what could go wrong...

"I only understand train station"

Don't panic, I'll be happy to help out. The above more or less describes Thrawn's acceptance into the Imperial forces, the good Palpie made the right decision at that point, which was to listen to Thrawn.

A while later he was even awarded the rank of Grand Admiral (good to know that this rank even exists). For a non-human in the Empire, this is actually a big deal, because actually said Empire and its Emperor also like non-humans... well, not very much.

However, Thrawn is anything but unsuitable for the job. Many of the Imperial officers have risen through the ranks more through vitamin B than through brain power or talent, and that is turning out more incompetent leaders than any military force would like. As is well known, Thrawn is a little bit different. The guy is able to use two hemispheres of his brain at the same time
also to inflict on the opponent accordingly. There's no need for anyone to send objects flying around the room, no one to wave around with a laser sword or throw lightning bolts at people. Thrawn can win battles on the ground or in space with the power that is now considered almost extinct: thinking.

"Where does Thrawn come from all of a sudden?"

Damn good question! Back then, more precisely after the first Star Wars trilogy, another trilogy came out, but in book form. Today this smaller series, written by Timothy Zahn, is known as the “Thrawn Trilogy.” What is interesting here is the approach that the new Republic is dealing with the remnants of the Empire, who are now rallying under the rule of Grand Admiral Thrawn to destroy the newly founded New Republic again. It becomes clear relatively quickly that this foundation would never have happened if Thrawn had been in command at the Battle of Endor. At that point he was ordered to “keep calm” elsewhere in the galaxy.

Thrawn now likes to appear here and there, be it in a new book series or the Star Wars series, for example Star Wars "Rebels" and also in "Ahsoka".

"So what does this have to do with Empire at War?"

Anyone who remembers knows that Thrawn was already part of “Forces of Corruption”. On his personal Star Destroyer, the "Chimaera" (yes, in English it is the "Chimaera"), he makes himself more present on the battlefield than the enemy would like.

Fortunately, "Star Wars: Empire at War" still has an exemplary modding community that didn't miss the opportunity to provide the Grand Admiral with his own mod. And we'll take a closer look at them...

"Blah blah blah"

I know...enough said. Have fun watching! And now everyone together again: "Mitth'raw'nuruodo"!
