This stage is the one where you are guaranteed to lose at least one life, just due to the beginning section. It's basically an elevator section over a pit, and the elevator isn't wide enough for you to be able to do the dodge roll without falling, let alone get knocked into the air.

And this stage loves to freeze up and make you restart in two player.
