So, in DW8, all the Story Modes have a sort of "turning point" where if you win all the optional sidequest-type stuff in the preceding missions, you can change a historical defeat into a victory. (The clearest example is Wei's...it is possible to keep Guo Jia alive, and he sees through the fire attack plan at Chi Bi). You get a choice of two battles, the default battle and the "hypothetical" battle where some key fact is changed to allow you to win. This sends you down a special "hypothetical" branching path of missions that basically exists so, at last, you can finally make your favorite force actually unify the land. Or you can play the standard mission and move towards the "real" ending (where obviously only Jin actually unifies the land).

Anyway, for Lu Bu's forces, the decisive loss you can turn into a victory is Dingtao. It's possible to turn this defeat into a victory. We...will come back to that later. For now, let's lose! Yay!
