Lisa the Painful is the follow up to Lisa the First, and differs quite drastically from its predecessor. In particular, instead of focusing on the titular character, the story of the game focuses on the struggles of her brother, Brad Armstrong, who similarly suffered abuse from their father Marty. Carrying the burdens of his past, Brad lives a life of hopelessness, using a drug named Joy to take away the pain of his youth.

However, he finds something that he believes gives him a second chance, something that can right all of the wrongs from his past. What follows when it's taken from him is a story that includes absurd dark humor, unhappiness, mystery, and ultimately pain.

This Part covers events in the game up until just before Area 2.
