We watched the fireworks from The Mall (behind St. James Park). It was less busy, really close without having tickets, and easy to get away from when it's all over (Tip: The nearest OPEN Underground station was Hyde Park Corner)
Things to note:
- The fireworks take place at: Thames Riverside, Central London, SE1, United Kingdom
- To get close, you need to buy tickets. Tickets sell out fast!
- They close off all of the roads and foot paths in the area, so there is no sneaky way to get in.
- All public transportation is free on the evening and early morning of New Year's Eve/Day
- There are many parties and events which include free alcohol and without a good viewing proximity to the fireworks. From ~£80+
New Year's Eve: London fireworks celebrate start of 2020
The UK has seen in the start of the new decade.
In London, some 12,000 fireworks lit up the capital's skyline, with 100,000 tickets being bought for the event.
Big Ben's chimes sounded the start of the display, despite them being silent this year while renovation work is completed.
London New Year’s Eve Fireworks, a New Year's Eve firework display, is celebrated along the Victoria Embankment and South Bank areas of the River Thames where the London Eye and Big Ben are situated. The countdown is accompanied by the chimes of Big Ben, and a digital countdown timer projected onto the Shell Centre. The fireworks are launched off the London Eye and from barges in the River Thames at midnight. The display is organised by Jack Morton Worldwide, with Titanium Fireworks responsible for the pyrotechnics.
