Lual Mayen: From South Sudan refugee to game developer
Lual Mayen is 24, and he spent 22 years of his life in a refugee camp. But he made a mobile game for peace, a board game about conflict resolution, and is now known as a game developer.
His mother bought him a laptop, after working for three years to earn $300. He cried when she gave it to him. But he used it to get on the internet, and he played games like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Then he decided to make a game about peace, Salaam. He created a board game, Wahda. And he working on a VR title.
Now he lives in Washington D.C. At 24, he spent 22 years of his life in a refugee camp. He was named the Global Gaming Citizen at the Game Awards in 2018, as part of a Facebook Gaming program.
