"Lo and behold, the no damage to Kite run post Data Drain!"
So after MANY attempts just getting to Net Slum, I was able to reproduce a similar scenario without Gardenia, or a 3rd party member for that member.
Kite is level 40, BlackRose is level 41. Weapons/Items/Stats are shown in the first few seconds and I cut it to make you watch the fight only! Enjoy ^.^

Common things to remember:
1) Magus is probably the only boss (aside from Cubia) that no one should have any judgment for "over-leveling" (Speedrunners place Kite to be 47+, so by all means GRIND, or get hp boosts?)
2) The first part of Magus is timid at best. With Magus, there is only 1 strat: Destroy leaves, hit body. If you have splash damage attacks, use them! Only thing to be wary of is the pound, which is used based off how quick the leaves are being finished or how quick Magus is being peeled. You can solo the leaves and have BlackRose constantly attack (DON'T USE SP)
3) White Mages DON'T EXIST! People fight this battle with Elk/Mistral because of their back and forth magical ability, as well as not wanting to play the role of healer/support. But everything "healing" can be substituted with items (items take a LOT less time than spellcasting.) And with each party member able to hold 99 items, all Elk/Mistral do is give Magus an easy target to kill. Also, if you don't WANT to play support, you can always unequip any armor that has healing spells from your teammates and gift them about 30 or so healing potions. (They spam it without hesitation and do it so effectively that Kingdom Heart 1's Dolan would never recover) It may not be obvious, but Magus's magic defense is also about the same as its defense, so it kinda doesn't make sense to throw a mage at it, especially with Magus also having no elemental weakness.
THE FACT THAT I HAD TO BASICALLY COPY/PASTE THIS FROM MY SKEITH VIDEO IS SAD. Wavemasters aren't useless! They're just too damn liable against the hard-hitting bosses. Not to mention, I let BlackRose play healer and she PROVED my point to a letter! So much so, that there are multiple instances where she healed us FASTER than Magus could even do what it intended, and even I was left in awe thinking, why did I even open my menus?
4) Magus's attacks range from 230-1000+ damage, and its movements are simple enough to read in the first half as it just moves in a circle dropping leaves. The only kicker is that when it casts spells, you will more than likely never notice since the animation is in the front of its body, but you prioritize its stem.
Healing potions are necessary, spread about 15 per person. Resurrects, Antidotes and Restoratives are also needed in quantities of 10 per person. (Leftovers from the Dungeon)
Post Data Drain, Magus is a pain. It enjoys running away, but will follow a suit of invincibility frames going into its intended target, slamming the ground and then casting L2 spell, RaJuk Zot for 400+damage per hit, which is also the only basic move that can kill you. Best course of action is to split party members in a pincer formation, so either your party dies, or you do.
A fun attempt I tried to do this time was to give BlackRose and Kite a higher magic defense and wood element boost (I forgot to use Holy Sap T.T) but nontheless, it made BlackRose die faster xD
But from this, I've discovered that Magus 2nd Form follows a similar pattern to Skeith in how it selects who to cast magic on.
Mutation armors/weapons at higher levels penalize physical accuracy/evasion, so don't get them?
5) Strengthen/Buff skills are NECESSARY!!! You can buff everything in the book, Magus can still kill you like Skeith would've. So if you're gonna buff, place it into All Phys attributes, Magic Defense, Wood Up and any other element that you feel confident will help make your elemental offensive attack do more damage. If you use Ap Do /Speed Charms, it is a waste of time/money and does NOT contribute anything to the battle aside from making you think you're moving/hitting faster (unless your a speedrunner)!

Strong offense is ALWAYS better than a strong defense!
Once you have around 900~ health average, you can start "surviving" it's second form.
