The announcement of Mass Effect: Andromeda was met by instant dread. There is a sense of persisting bitterness over the controversy that was the ending of Mass Effect 3. Plus, game publishers have had a frustrating habit of forcing out unnecessary entries to franchises that had definitively ended the generation before. Disappointment with Dragon Age: Inquisition continued putting doubt on Bioware’s ability to make truly great games comparable to their past works. The fact Bioware devs stated Inquisition would serve as a template for this Mass Effect game was a crushing admission forcing me and many others to expect the worst. Mass Effect: Andromeda was expected to be an unfortunate and underwhelming entry loaded with filler content and lacking in the spirit of the previous games. As it turns out, it’s exactly that.
