Final Fantasy VIII is a great game with a killer soundtrack! I do feel like it's underrated. The people that rock with it, really rock with it. However, it's a divisive game.

I feel like that comes down to 2 big things. One thing is the story/writing. Some people really like it, while some really hate it, while some are in between. Another thing, an arguably larger thing is The Junctioning System and the way leveling up is handled in the game.

For that part, I feel like people get more confused than anything, or think leveling up is useless. I think you should level up and take advantage of The Junction System. Combined you can be an utter beast in that game.
