The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been one of the most successful ventures in the history of Hollywood. It features epic action sequences, fantastic characters, and great locations. The only problem with it? I can’t play it. Seriously, how much would you love to pick up a controller right now and play through your favorite Marvel movie? Well, you can’t do that but you can play something very similar. That’s because there are several moments in the MCU that seem to be directly inspired by video games.
Sometimes the reference is obvious. They will often have characters openly playing video games as a silly pop culture reference. More often than not though, these small references are actually fantastic pieces of imagery or foreshadowing that expand the meaning of the film if you’ve played the game.
Other times it’s obvious that the filmmakers making an action sequence really really like to play video games. There are moments that take direct tableaus from box-art for a sweet reference only a gamer would understand. Then there are the sequences that clearly look like fight scenes you would play in a big budget game.
We also know that there will be gaming inspiration for the future. It is kind of cool to play an Avengers game and get a hint as to what one of the Disney+ shows is undoubtedly going to be like.
