It seems that, when listening to others discuss the Megaman series, the latter half of the NES games MM4, 5, & 6 dont get as much love as their predecessors. Ive often wondered why that is. Perhaps this is where people felt that the well was beginning to dry up. The biggest issue I can think of, however, is the Mega Buster, and the fact that it can be charged, starting with MM4. The games suddenly became much easier. Even Keiji Inafune himself said he felt that the charged buster was a bad move, as it sucked a lot of the challenge out of the games while at the same time diminishing the usefulness of the robot master weapons. Most likely the reason they took that ability away in MM9.

So with that in mind, Ive decided to forsake the use of charge shots in these earlier games and try battling the robot masters with the standard, basic shots, starting with MM4. Some battles are still kinda easy (Diveman & Toadman are easily beaten with just rapid-fire), but most of them are considerably harder. If you agree that the buster makes the games too easy, I suggest trying them without.
