I believe these are actually Mold Mites from our Grey Tree Frogs cage. Dust mites, Grain Mites, Storage Mites are very similar and so tiny. They can barely/rarely be seen with the naked eye.
I can see them unaided with my right eye, if my left eye is closed. Even the smallest details. I can also see the tiniest nymphs. It's definitely easier to use a microscope.. Even an old handheld microscope from the 80's!
I thought they were Dust Mites or Storage Mites at 1st. However I mainly an seeing them in places that have small visible mold or where the tiniest mold spores are hiding inside the substrate.
Now I can find them right away.. they look like tiny particles of off-white to very light tanish pink.
I've been slowly killing off the Mites, waiting for the stores in my area to restock the substrate, so we can finally clean it out and disinfect everything. Drying the existing substrate is very slow moving. The frog keeps splashing large amounts of his water around... counter to what I'm trying to achieve.
I find everything fascinating under a microscope. Seeing what things REALLY look like in our world.. creepy and cool! Even a tiny piece of skin has so many details and looks nothing like what you saw before looking in the microscope.
