MLB The Show 21 - Stadium Creator - A Look At Dead Ball Era Ballparks
Ok, so finding info these old pre-1920 ballparks wasn't easy, but I found enough between black and white pics and dioramas to suffice. The list is below. I tried to do enough with the early 20th century ambiance (i.e. dirt floor settings, railroad tracks, rowhouses with stands for fans on them whenever a picture called for it, etc.) to make it pleasing to the eye, so tell me what you think in the comments. Like I said, the list of parks is enclosed below:
South End Grounds - Boston, MA - Home of the Boston Braves 1871-1914 - added clock towers in the backdrop and flags to the pointed corners of the rooves to give it that castle tower feel that it really had. I didn't create this one, just added those features.
South Side Park - Chicago, IL - Home of the White Sox - 1891-1910 - this was a complete teardown, as it looked nothing like the real thing. Experimented with double decks instead of roof carriage boxes, like you will see with Exposition Park Later. Added dirt roads.
Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds 1908 - Boston, MA - Home of the Boston Americans (Red Sox) - 1901-1911 - Another redo from the ground up. Only thing I left were the stands behind home plate. Added rooftop seating above home plate, scenery, and 1st base side stands. Flags as well as in pictures.
Columbia Park - Philadelphia, PA - Home of the Philadelphia Athletics - 1901 -1908 - This had no scenery, which I had to go to architectural drawings to find something similar. It had the rooftop box that it really had, but I had to add the weird bars on the roof of the grandstand. Already had screen on right field fence.
Exposition Park - Pittsburgh, PA - Home of the Pirates - 1891-1909 - another tear down and redo. Added first and third base side stands. 2nd roof was open and had no seats, so added wooden bleachers to give it that carriage box feel form the late 1800s/early 1900s. Scenery was already there. Added screen on top of right field wall, similar to Columbia Park, but true to life.
Bennett Park - Detroit, MI - Home of the Tigers - 1896-1911 - this was just a minor league park with trees. That's it. Kept minor league standard club boxes with roof, as I used to use that to emulate the carriage box feel I spoke about before. Added outfield wall ads, rooftop bleachers on rowhouses, and stands down the lines.
FYI, all these stadiums are available on Xbox Series X under the name Tacogaming. Also, have Hilltop Park from Washington Heights, NY, former home of the New York Highlanders/Yankees. Will be showing that later in an actual game, as will all of these, but it really is perfect. Like I said, let me know what you think in the comments. Don't forget to subscribe!
