MMZ3 on Original Hardware w/ Gameboy Interface (GBI)
Following up on my last video, this is another visual test to see how my gameplay in Mega Man Zero 3 looks on original hardware. This time, I've soft modded my Gamecube so that I can use the Gameboy Interface (GBI) homebrew.
Putting it in simpler terms, GBI is a far superior version of the Gameboy Player's boot disc. It still requires the actual Gameboy Player Hardware, which still counts as "Original Hardware. The GB Player is a legitimate Gameboy Advance.
If you've seen my last video, the difference in quality is night and day. I'm still using my RetroTINK 5x Pro + Prism Component cable setup, which further boosts the image quality up to 1080p. The game itself is force scaled internally in Swiss (the Gamecube homebrew) at 240p while using the High-Fidelity version of GBI, which further gives it sharper quality.
What I was most impressed with is how this allows me to FINALLY record in a proper 4:3 aspect ratio that fills the screen vertically. The reason why you saw the boxed in gameplay for all these years is because of how the forced stretching kills quality in emulation. Without a stronger PC, I'm limited to how I can present my gameplay in the emulators. But thanks to GBI and the RT5X, I can finally show my gameplay in a fuller screen (Ultimate Disrespect IV will still be on the emulator though, since that was all planned and recorded before all this).
Now, there's still room for improvement. However, due to limitations of my recording equipment, I can't push this as far as it can go just yet. Or to put it more accurately, my PC + capture card is unable to output what my TV can. I have a 4K TV, and since both my PC and capture card caps at 1080p, I can't show off how this looks in 4k. Because trust me, the game looks stunning in the highest quality. One day, when I can afford to replace my outdated equipment, we'll see glorious high-level gameplay in 4K on this channel...
But I'm content with this for now. All of my other MM games on original hardware looks absolutely beautiful with my RT5X in 1080p. More serious content will be using original hardware from now on.
I'd like to give a special thanks and shoutout to @NayruSSB for making me aware of GBI. Without them, I'd still be using the ol' crusty Gameboy Player Boot disc, lol.
