Visual Description: A woman addresses the camera. She has straight brown hair worn down, and wears purple-rimmed cat's eye-shaped eyeglasses that help her to see. She's dressed in a navy and white striped summer dress. There's a wooden door in the background.

Description: I watched "Whisper of the Heart" (the 1995 Studio Ghibli film) with some friends. I wanted to go ahead and share my thoughts on the film. I try to remain spoiler free/avoid saying anything that would ruin the film for folks have yet to see it.

I think that the film was very wholesome and slice-of-life and thought provoking. It makes me sad how quickly that teenagers are expected to grow up. Maybe part of it is a cultural difference, as the film takes place in Japan, but even in the US today there are teenagers taking out thousands of dollars worth of student loans. It's sad how teenagers are expected to already know what they want to do for the entire rest of their lives from a young age. So I'd say that the film was very true to life, but in some ways that truth made me feel sad and provoked me to think.

I feel like the film would be nostalgic for folks who were alive and remember the 80s and pre-internet 90s. I'd say it's also a good film to take your kid to, especially if you were alive in the 90s and want to show them about what life was like back in the good old days. I can't remember anything objectionable/that I'd consider to be inappropriate taking place in it. I'd say that "Whisper of the Heart" is wholesome enough to watch in a family friendly setting.

It's not a film that I was familiar with before watching it; it seems to be one of Studio Ghibli's lesser-known films. I would say that it's worth watching once. I probably wouldn't re-watch it a second time, but I enjoyed it a great deal and thought that it was super wholesome. I hope that this video inspires you to check out media that you might not have otherwise tried, and I hope that you have a great day!
