At age 3, Dana Dziadul of Wake Forest, NC, fell gravely ill after eating imported cantaloupe tainted with Salmonella. As her mom explains in this video, Dana continues to experience health consequences more than a decade later, including a painful arthritic condition that limits her physical activities. The Dziaduls and many other Americans are urging Congress to support the full implementation and funding of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act. This law, approved in 2011, will help to reduce the number of Americans who suffer from foodborne infections. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that each year 48 million Americans are sickened and 3,000 die from foodborne illnesses.
