There's some interesting worldbuilding going on in various bookshelves scattered throughout the towns. Going by the title of the game, it's possible that there could be other games in the series that are connected by this lore.
For some reason, ever NPC seems to point in the same direction by default, which is really weird in the first cutscene with Gargan's parents, who kick him out of the house without even looking at him.
The interior of the houses all look too similar to me. I'm used to the more varied interior mapping that I see in RPG Maker games, instead of having every house start with a giant living room.
The combat system makes use of regenerating stamina and sequential actions rather than MP and singular actions. Unfortunately, this has a bit of a flaw where it's possible to attack enemies that are already dead if you concentrate too many attacks on one foe. It'd be nice if the next attack would move on to the next foe, but it is somewhat balanced by the fact that enemies can waste moves on dead party members.
My biggest issue is that the text looks blurry if you try to go fullscreen with a high resolution. Is there a way to make the text more scalable?
Be sure to recruit Rook at the inn, since you'll deal with larger enemy mobs in the next enemy area.
I tried to enter the ruins to the southeast of town and got pwned. I probably won't return until I get some better slow resistance and better gear.
