NES Tetris B Type overall score world record (179037 on 19-2)
A perfect score in B-type requires 7 tetrises with no burns, as any burns would cause the 25 line limit to be hit after only 6 tetrises. Maximizing score dictates that you start on the highest level you can possibly pick (+8400 total score per level, +1000 for each level past 10) on the highest starting height (+1000 per height). On 19-2 that means 168000 total score, plus 9000 for level, 2000 for height, a base of 179000. Additional score comes from some amount of pushdown.
Nobody has ever gotten 7 tetrises on level 19 height 3, which would be 180000 but starts with 8 rows of garbage (I'll try that next). I got this on height 2, which is 5 rows of garbage. I reset to find a board that would let me build on 4 rows on the right well, and then pushed down enough to pass the previous world record by DMJ.
Sometimes I got boards that let me build on 3 rows of garbage instead, but they are rare. To get 19-3 perfect I will probably reset for boards that let me build on top of 6 rows of garbage which is similarly rare.
Technically the gym cartridge lets you do B type on a 29 start or even a 255 start so the score world record is higher, but I think that this is special for being the highest score that could be replicated on the original cartridge. Even though the process of resetting for a viable starting board on original cartridge is much more painful thanks to the copyright screen.
