This will be the last of the Nier Automata video. Its sad to see the end of this series but I must admit that the whole game has been one beautiful story. Its saddening but the story telling element is amazing.

This last video is about Emil and what happen to him after the event of Nier Replicant. After the death of Nier, Emil lost all memories he has pertaining to Nier. In this game, it would appear that Emil did not completely loss all memories. The sight of Lunar Tear brings Emil a feeling of longing and a sense of loss. If you remember, Lunar Tear is the flower that Nier was meant to fetch that was said to be able to cure Yonah. The flower, it seems, still bear a significant place in Emil's memories despite Nier being missing.

Fast forward a couple thousands of years. Human was no more and the alien comes knocking. Seeing the rampant destruction, Emil fought hard against the Alien horde. To deal with the massive amount of enemy, Emil replicated himself, specifically the weapon side of him while sacrificing his sense of self with each replication. I guess it could be due to data corruption from hasty replication with each replication compounding to the problem. Whatever the case, the last surviving Emil has now become jaded and hated his inability to die.

Emil mention the death of his friends that fought along side him during the invasion. I do not believe that this refers to the original party in Nier Replicant but rather the remaining Androids on earth since the Alien invades after humanity is gone. I could not imagine the pain that Emil must have gone through. He continue to fight a battle he cannot win and live as his friends die by his side. He wanted to give up but his can't. His ability become a bane, his survival ability a curse. Emil used 2 words to represent his feeling which are both translated into "Pain" in English. They are "kurushii" and "itami". This is where English falls a bit short. "Itami" is physical pain while "kurushii" is mental pain. The battle takes a toll not only on his body but also his mind which I think the English translation fails to adequately bring to attention.
