Not The Nine O'Clock News - Opening Titles Recreation
4This is my attempt at recreating the style of titles used in the BBC satirical show Not The Nine O'Clock News. The show ended in 1982 but I intended this title sequence to be set sometime around 1985-86.
Not the Nine O'Clock News was a sketch comedy show that ran between 1979 and 1982 before its four stars split up to go their separate ways. At the start of almost every episode there was a special title sequence that used a combination of news clips and stock footage to create sight gags involving the politicians and celebrities of the day. The show ended in 1982, well before the 1983 UK General Election and just as the world was quickly turning into the crazy mess we know today! If the show had continued into the mid 80s this title sequence is how I imagine the show might have looked. I was going to add a laugh track (as was present in the original shows) but I honestly find that they ruin a lot of shows, and the theme tune is way too good to obscure by canned laughter.
And because I'm paranoid only I will understand the jokes in this, here's a list of my *intended* gags just to avoid confusion.
Gag 1: Air Traffic Controllers are controlling planes with video game controllers
Gag 2: Princess Diana runs over Mrs T's car in a tank
Gag 3: Rambo shoots down Air Force 1 with an RPG
