Nreal Air Is Where Fashion And Function Meet But Are These Really AR Glasses? Let's Find Out!
Today I am testing out the Nreal Air Glasses and I have to say they are now my favorite way to consume media. Now, I say consume media because in all honesty I don't consider these to be true AR glasses but feel they are more of a personal media viewer instead. I know a lot of articles and other videos label these as AR glasses, but without having cameras and the ability to track themselves in 6 DOF space I just can't call them true AR. Technically I guess anything that projects an image into the real world could be considered Augmented Reality, but for me the experience needs to be a bit more to gain that label. I have however been using the Nreal light glasses for over a year now and can say that those are true AR glasses and you can see the difference in a few videos which I will link at the end of this description.
So what are these glasses good for then? Well a lot of things with the first being an incredible way to watch movies and television shows right from your phone on a huge floating screen. The image that these glasses produce from their 1080p OLED screens is incredibly sharp, clear and colorful. I was blown away the first time I fired up Netflix or Pluto TV and saw just how good these were in comparison to watching the same content on something like my Quest 2 or other VR headsets. The fact that I could still maintain awareness of my surroundings made this feel so much more comfortable and when using them in public while commuting this made it feel much safer since I was not completely disconnected from the real world around me.
Other great uses for these glasses are playing games and web surfing. The Nreal Air glasses can be connected to a variety of sources such as my phone which I show in this video, and they can also be used with various gaming systems such as the Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch via the use of an adapter. On the phone side I was also pleasently surprised to see that Samsung Dex saw them as a viable screen source and worked flawlessly giving me a large screen desktop experience right from the device I carry in my pocket! Although I did not test it in this video, I have seen that the Nreal Air can also be connected to certain PC's with that have an Alt Mode USB-C connection and they can now also be used with Mac's and iPad or iPhone as well though the use of another adapter that Nreal sells seperately.
Overall I have to say I really love these glasses for all that they can do and would reccomend them to anyone who travels or commutes extensively or for anyone who wants to have a cool new way to consume media while at home or on the go.
