National Urban Health Mission (NUHM), a flagship programme of the Central Government, it is a counterpart of the National Rural Health Mission. It aims at providing primary healthcare for the poor in cities and towns with a population of over 50,000. It will improve the health status of the urban population in general, particularly the poor and other disadvantaged sections by facilitating equitable access to quality health care, through a revamped primary public health care system, targeted outreach services and involvement of the community and urban local bodies.
