Obscure is a survival horror video game developed by Hydravision Entertainment and published by DreamCatcher Interactive in North America, Ubisoft in China and MC2-Microïds in other territories for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2 and Xbox. It was released on October 1, 2004 in Europe and on April 6, 2005 in North America.
Stan Jones is the second one introduced out of four, and is known to be Kenny Matthews's best friend. Depending if the player has control of him or not will depend on if he appears in cutscenes. A stoner and a slack student at the school, good friends with Josh and Kenny. The only problems that he had in school is being a thief and hacker in computers. He is able to crack locks easier. With more skill, he can break into rooms as well. First received when entering the bottom left building on the map. He survives the events of ObsCure and ObsCure II. It is required he survives the events of Obscure to be canon with obscure 2.
Shannon Matthews is one of the main characters in the ObsCure game series. She has appeared as a main character in both ObsCure and ObsCure II. She also appears in the non-canon spin-off Final Exam as a minor character. She's voiced by Stephanie Sheh in the first installment and by E. Renee Thomas in the second one. In the short film inspired by the saga, ObsCure: The Uncertain Truth, she's played by Elise Arndt.
Ashley Thompson is a character in ObsCure. She is an ex- student at Leafmore High. She participated in the mysterious events that happened in Leafmore. Student of Leafmore High, cheerleader of the basketball team Mighty Sharks and passionate about Taekwondo, Ashley is a tempered and strong-willed girl, older sister of Liddyah Thompson. She has a heated character and is very sure of herself but, despite her attractive appearance (posing as a model for the local Beauty Club), she is not an easily emotional student. She is a close friend of Shannon Matthews and was her brother Kenny's girlfriend during her years of high school, probably attracted by the latter's bold character and reciprocated by him for his confident and combative attitude. The relationship between the two, however, was somewhat fluctuating between a great mutual attraction and a head-on collision given Kenny's almost selfless behavior and Ashely's aggressive attitude. Pleased and even a little impertinent, she tries to always act with great maturity in every circumstance, showing that she is not afraid of anything or anyone but, on the contrary, of craving direct confrontation. For Leafmore teachers it represents an average student who, however, is often penalized by irreverent behavior. She is a great self-defense martial arts enthusiast, probably to vent a furious and aggressive character, and distinguished herself at Leafmore during an introduction to weapons for self defense. His peculiar ability, in fact, is that of knowing how to handle any weapon much better than his companions to strike with greater violence and fire two shots in rapid succession with firearms.
Kenny Matthews is a character in ObsCure and ObsCure II. He was the captain of the basketball team of Leafmore High called the Sharks and quarterback for the football team of Fallcreek University. He was a survivor and playable character in ObsCure and ObsCure II, before dying as a mutated monster. Being muscular, Kenny is healthy, he can run faster and he can move heavy objects, making him the strongest (besides Sven) of his friends. Just like Stan, Josh and Ashley, Kenny has to take pills to keep the spores at bay.
Josh Carter is a character in ObsCure. He is a journalist in Leafmore High, he is a protagonist in ObsCure and is the third one introduced out of the four first. Josh is introduced in the gym, recording Kenny Matthews, Stan Jones and several other players for the school news paper. When the players leave (aside from Kenny) Josh offers to take Shannon home, which she declines. The next day, Shannon and Ashley Thompson tell Josh that Kenny had disappeared. Josh comes up with the idea of exploring the school after-hours to search for him. He begins the investigation, while fighting for his life.
Dan is a character in ObsCure. He is a student that appears briefly in ObsCure. He was a kidnapped student by Herbert Friedman to experiment, he was a temporarily playable character. Dan was a Leafmore High student. No one knows exactly when he was kidnapped, but according to game documents, it can be understood that it happened not so long before Kenny. Bald, battered and undernourished, he is reduced to a shadow of himself; He seems to have an insane fear of the experiments to which he is subjected to along with various tests. They have left indelible marks on his body. However, he proves willing to escape from his prison when he meets Kenny Matthews. He seems to know more of the underground prisoners, but their fate is unknown.
