"PAMS Radio Jingles" "77 WABC PAMS Series 30 The 'N Set"
"WABC had a powerful relationship with radio jingle producer PAMS of Dallas. To put into context just how crucial WABC was to the PAMS jingles we jingle fans enjoy, here is an excerpt from the _WABC Musicradio 77_ website, the page titled, "The WABC/PAMS Story":
_"Over these years, PAMS was commissioned by WABC to produce 60 jingles per year for $45,000 per year. WABC had a ninety day exclusive for most of this time which meant that no radio station other than WABC could use these jingles for the first 90 days after they were released. PAMS and WABC were so closely identified with each other over this period that radio programmers from other markets would monitor WABC for the latest jingle packages. It was a beneficial arrangement for both concerns. PAMS got more free advertising than it could ever hope for and WABC had exclusive jingle packages and melodies which other stations could not touch for at least the first three months!"_
Featured here is PAMS Series 30, "The 'N Set." This set could be heard as a counterpart to ether PAMS Series 27 or PAMS Series 29, "Go Go"; those packages featured a four-member, all-male vocal group set against dynamic, updated Big Band brass arrangements and in the case of Series 27, countered by the sky-high female voice of Gleni Tai and with Series 29, both Gleni Tai and jazzy, wordless backing vocals by a 4-voice female group.
With Series 30, in an ultra rare move, the ladies take center stage on all cuts, set against fast-paced, complex brass arrangements and often with extra backing vocals provided by the ladies themselves or on some cuts male voices.
So here is where things get a bit confusing. As far as I can tell, there are about four versions of this package: a demo package, a package that says "Original Lyrics", one marked "Air Version" and then a package with alternate "Go Go" lyrics. The jingles heard here are the ones marked "Air Versions" on the CD I have. I didn't realize I had the alternate "Go Go" lyrics until just today and I plan to have those here in the future as well.
So enjoy "The 'N Set" as done for 77 WABC."
