I love the Paper Mario series. The Thousand Year door is one of my favorite games of all time. I've played this game through many times, but as each time I played, it's gotten easier and easier. I wanted to challenge myself, so I heard about something called the Pre-Hooktail run. Basically, you complete the entire Pit of 100 trials and defeat the most powerful boss before you even beat the first major boss of the game, Hooktail. This seemed like a worthy challenge I could pull off. It's challenging because you are going into a place with 100 floors of enemies (well, not every floor has enemies, but you know what I mean...) in a very low level and with no way to save your progress. This was played on a real console and not on an emulator. So, no savestates, slowdowns, or cheats were used. If you don't know the Pit of 100 trials, the final floors have enemies that are so powerful, some of them are not even in the main part of the game! You only have a limited number of badges to help you since most of them you cannot obtain until after beating Hooktail. Also, you only have one star power meter with only one special move. So, no power boosting or special offensive moves are at your disposal. This challenge tests your ability to guard (especially superguard in the late levels), knowing your opponent's weaknesses and abilities, using strategies, and of course, luck. Also, keep in mind this was recorded with a DVD Recorder, so yes, recorder lag is present. I had to get used to the half-second delay in controls. XP

These videos will be split into parts, because this run takes a LONG time to complete. It's something you can't really rush, because it could be your downfall. I will include annotations to share some tips that I've learned while doing this. I hope this will help others who are interested in doing this challenge.

Basically there are 3 rules to keep in mind to successfully complete this run:
1) You have to beat Bonetail before you beat Hooktail and obtain a crystal star.
2) You cannot use cheats/hacks to obtain badges you cannot normally gain at that point of the game.
3) You cannot leave in the middle of Pit of 100 trials and then save. You have to complete it all the way through in one shot.
