The male character's default weapon has longer range, and the female character's has shorter range.
Because there is a limit of number of bullets in the screen, the male character's default weapon's continuity is worse than the female's so it's harder to protect yourself when enemies are close to you or move in some specific directions that makes them hard to hit. The female character's default weapon can protect you from enemies rushing toward you better but the shorter range makes hitting enemies far from you harder.
