I have no strong opinion on the game not having grown up with it, but the additional enemy made a possibly slow SNES beat em up into a hectic and fun romp. There's some garbage graphics, but overall it's probably better than the original.
To fix the sprite flicker issue in SNES9X 1.61 (or an equivalent emulator with the same features), go into the Emulation menu, then Hacks, and then enable "Disable Sprite LImit" and set CPU overclock to max.
