"The High King" is a fantasy novel by Lloyd Alexander that was published in 1968. It is the fifth and final book in "The Chronicles of Prydain" series. The story follows the young hero Taran as he embarks on a quest to defeat the evil Arawn and his army of Death-Lords, who threaten to destroy the land of Prydain. Taran is joined on his journey by his loyal friends and allies, including Princess Eilonwy, Fflewddur Fflam the bard, and Gurgi the furry creature. Along the way, they encounter new allies and enemies, face impossible challenges, and ultimately confront Arawn in a final battle for the fate of Prydain. "The High King" explores themes of heroism, sacrifice, friendship, and the struggle between good and evil. It won the 1969 Newbery Medal, one of the most prestigious awards for children's literature.
