Now that I have the HM for Cut, I remember there are some trees that can be cut back in areas like Pewter City. I know there is Route 11, which is optional at this point, but you can use that Route in order to train for the Vermilion City Gym, and I do remember you can get a Drowzee there, which you will see what happens in this video.
