Additional stuff that I wanted to say during post-game, but was too angry / mind-blown / forgetful to include in the recording, and it was long enough anyway (I really should write some of this stuff down as I'm playing)
- Jim Walls was a traffic officer, and I feel this series was at his absolute best when he wrote the first game, about being a police officer just like him. When the story moved to Homicide, and "dude breaks out of prison and goes on rampage!", it really lost its impact and believability. I put that down to both his lack of personal experience in that area (that's an assumption, but I think it's safe - the internet doesn't say he was a Homicide detective anywhere), and an attempt to mimic the style of other police-themed media from the 80s and 90s. I think PQ3 worked much better in regards to the story due to Jane Jensen's writing and influence; I see she was involved with KQ6, and that's the one I remember most from that series as well. PQ4 just feels like someone's attempt to say "I did done D.A.R.E and C.R.A.S.H, aren't I awesome?" and it didn't work for me at all. None of us are Homicide detectives though (... I think? Let me know in the comments if you are but maybe check with your employer first), so perhaps this is just extremely judgmental on my part.
- This game really did felt like "find the next plot trigger", and I'm not talking about the parts where I got stuck. I'm aware this describes 99.99% of all adventure games, and most other video games from a design point of view. However, other video games disguise it much better than this one did.
- All the credit for saving the playthrough at the end of Part 9 goes to Diamond Snake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXAM3SPEC7U - specifically, the description includes "look for the lighter". THANK YOU. Also htf did you get both speech and subtitles working simultaneously :(
- I'm glad I revisited the earlier games. As a kid, I didn't really understand what was going on; the dialogue, the themes, the everything else. Now that I'm older and almost emotionally ready to go through puberty, I get what they're about.
- Finally, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who subscribed and watched bits and pieces of this series. I can see that YT pushed quite a few videos over the series, especially the PQ4 videos; they all got some exposure and clicks. If you've stuck around and/or are reading or watching this, thank you! ❤️
