Popeye (Switch): High Score 60,575 - World Record [as far as I can tell]
16Unless anyone can prove different, I am marking this as the highest score ever recorded for Sabec Limited's 'Popeye' on Nintendo Switch. I make it to Level 14 before Brutus' increasing speed becomes too much to bear. I recorded this playthrough in the process of capturing footage for our upcoming article on the game for the Bad Game Hall of Fame website.
Of note is the fact that the game appears to stop providing new sentences to fill in on the "Ship" stage past the fourth gameplay loop -- as if Sabec didn't figure anyone would be able to survive that many loops. Unless there are maybe some hidden messages or something past the fifth gameplay loop? It's on y'all to figure that shit out for yourselves, though: I'm not playing this game any more once the article is done and dusted lol
Gameplay captured through Ryujinx, for whatever that may be worth. No cheats or save states were used, though. God, I wish I could've cheated to give myself infinite lives or something, and spared myself having to get good at this game.
