Before release, Team Fortress 2 had plenty of features that ended up getting scrapped, from throwable grenades to a "Super SMG" for the Medic. Pre-Fortress 2 is a TF2 mod that recreates this 2006-2007 era of development, right down to the Heavy's lead pipe melee weapon!
Some aspects of modern TF2 (hauling buildings) are worked in as quality-of-life features, but they don't take away from the old-fashioned charm of PF2. It's a "best of both worlds" sort of situation, and I ended up liking it better than I had expected.
