Would you look at that; a game in 2021 that has a free demo to try out!

As a fan of the first Project Warlock, this is shaping up to be a really cool experience. The sound effects are meaty, the sprite work is awesome, all of the weapons have a nice punch to them, and I like most of the monsters.

There's a lot of new features and mechanics included which helps spice up the gameplay. Location based destruction systems are always cool and I'm super happy to see that using different weapons also affects the damage system, nice attention to detail. I'm also happy weapons reload in the background since it encourages players to swap weapons more frequently and try out different combos.

Speaking of combos, the Claymore has to be the best inclusion by far. It's one of the best melee weapons I can recall using in recent memory. You can lob heads clean off of enemies, pull it out to do a quick slash on weakened foes, and the slicing sound it makes is super satisfying. It doesn't have an ammo counter but it does run off a stamina system; basically you can do 3 slashes in a row before you run out and stamina recharges faster when the weapon's put away. Again, it's another cool way to encourage players to combo different weapons.

There's a few issues I'll point out which will hopefully be resolved before an official beta comes out. Jumping artificially slows down the player's movement speed while in the air even with autorun turned on. There isn't a hud element showing how much ammo is left in a weapon's magazine. There's noticeable input delay when strafing/changing direction when autorun is enabled or when running. Being on fire is annoying; there's not really an indicator showing when you're about to be on fire and nothing showing how long the afterburn lasts for. The collision boxes for flame partials seems kind of random too; I could have sworn I wasn't standing in or near fire yet I'd randomly burst into flame. Final thing I noticed is that walking up stairs is really janky; it feels like the players momentum stays in tact but each step temporarily stops player movement, making it feel really choppy.

Issues aside, I can't recommend this demo enough. Best of all it's free, so if you don't like it you can just uninstall it. I'm really looking forward to trying it out in early access and playing the full release. The gameplay compliments my playstyle and even with the bits of jank it feels solid to play.

Thanks again for watching and as always, stay Serious!
