Psychic Force 2 (or Psychic Force 2012 as it was known as on Dreamcast and in arcades) is a forgotten fighting game by Taito, made during the genre boom of the late nineties.

Unlike many of its peers, which chose to follow the foundations laid by Street Fighter 2, this 1 vs. 1 fighter uses a grid arena for mobility and characters can utilise this space to create or close in on space in a isometric type of format. It isn't quite a 3D fighter in the way something like Virtual-ON or Destrega would later be known for, but Psychic Force offers enough of a natural spin on the genre to stand-out from some of it's peers, at the very least.

This PSX/PlayStation/PSone conversion of Psychic Force 2 is visually downgraded from its earlier Dreamcast and Arcade iterations, it runs at a slower frame-rate (30 rather than 60 FPS) but also lacks the same level of gloss in its texture and model work too. Thankfully, Psychic Force 2 does have unique content of it's own, including a kick ass intro by Hironobu Kageyama (of Dragon Ball Z fame) and it also reintroduces a couple characters previously missing from the original release of Psychic Force 2012 (i.e. Sonia and Genma).

Sadly, neither of these things warrant enough of a reason to play Psychic Force 2 over the Dreamcast original. Even so, owners of PlayStation hardware finally got to experience a game which, otherwise, would have been impossible to run on Sony's aging hardware by that point.
