QT30E - Pikmin 4: Demo - Story, Tutorial, And Gameplay
0The newest video in the QT30E series is on the newly release demo for the upcoming Switch game Pikmin 4.
I have never played a Pikmin game before, other than Pikmin Bloom on my phone. but i knew enough going in to know how it plays. what i didn't know was the story of the games. it was the story aspect of the game that i just didn't seem to understand. i found it hard to believe that it has taken 4 games and Olimar still hasn't left. it was great and really useful for the game to go over the story and to incorporate it into the tutorial. but it kinda blew my mind that we're 4 games in basically doing the same thing over again.
As for the Demo, it's alright. if, like me, you're unfamiliar with the series it's a great place to start. plus, the progress made in it carries over to the main game. i didn't complete the demo but i do think i had gotten to the point of what the gameplay loop would be. get Pikmin, gather energy, recharge the rescue ship. the demo makes it clear that it won't progress and will stop once a certain amount of energy has been gathered.
I thought it looked fairly good, but i'm not a big fan of the art style. i genuinely find the Pikmin creepy, and nothing is what i'd call cute. controlling it took some getting used to as putting jump on X seemed strange to me. especially when holding it charges a rush attack but you also need to manage the camera with that right hand. this was used in a boss fight and i found the controls more difficult than the boss.
